The "Didactics of Mathematics" working group offers the didactic courses in the mathematics teaching degree programme and designs the subject-specific mathematics courses in this programme together and in close cooperation with colleagues from the mathematics department. Based on our teaching experience from school practice, we pursue the goal of closely interlinking academic and didactic theory and school practice.

The working group's research includes:

  • Didactical (developmental) research for maths teaching at secondary school levels 1 and 2
  • Designing and researching the transition from school to university
  • The development, implementation and research of teacher training courses
  • The qualification of multipliers for the implementation of teacher training courses and
  • The research-based development of mathematics and didactics courses in mathematics teacher training programmes.

The “Didactics of Mathematics” working group also runs the Lernl@b Mathematik. Here, students have the opportunity to work together on exercise sheets, revise lecture content, plan their own lessons and even try them out. The wide range of specialised and didactic literature, technical devices and various individual and group workstations offer students an ideal learning environment.

Our strong (inter-)national network is the result of our close cooperation with the "German Centre for Mathematics Teacher Education" ("DZLM") and the "Centre for Higher Mathematics Education" ("khdm"). In our research and development work, we continuously focus on dialogue and cooperation with teachers from the field, which ensures a connection to everyday school life. New findings from theory and practice can then be profitably incorporated into teacher training programmes.
